Kadabra & Oslo D join forces - Eggs is born!

What do you get when two of Norways most creative design agencies hook up? The answer is Eggs. With this, Norway most oval design office is born.

Eggs will deliver Design Driven Innovation with core competence within service-, product, and interactive design – a width of services which is unique in Norway. We are proud to be among the first companies in the country to deliver design across digital surfaces and physical products. This makes us attractive within technology driven environments such as health, finance, transport, electronics, research, and maritime sectors.

Starting from our offices in Oslo and Trondheim, we aspire to grow both nationally and internationally. Eggs Design will have its main office in Oslo with Ulla Sommerfelt as CEO. The company will have 14 employees and grow to 20 in the end of 2012. The Trondheim office will be led by Espen Jørgensen.

Jørgen Solstad seeks other opportunities

From 1st of February Jørgen Solstad resigns his position as CEO of Kadabra. Jørgen will pursue other challenges as a design manager for a client of ours. We wish him the best of luck!

Inclusive design challenge

Jørgen led the winning team in the Inclusive Design Challenge hosted by the Norwegian Design Council

4 groups worked intensively for 24 hours creating products or services for 4 people with special challenges. The group that Jørgen led created the concept Sound Cloud "A Richer picture experience". By recording sound while snapping a picture, you can later search and browse through photos in a new way.

KADABRA exchange

Jan took a trip to Italy and worked for MMDesign in Bressanone

Jan from KADABRA asked himself why exchange should be something that is reserved for students. With an Italian girlfriend Italy was the natural choice. He contacted MMDesign in Bressanone and they were in. The agreement was that Jan would work there for a month while Luciano from MMDesign came to KADABRA in the same period. The stay was instructive and inspiring for all parties. In the end of the stay Jan was stuck a little longer because of Eyjafjallajökull, but he didn´t mind.

Four awards for KADABRA

KADABRA was awarded with four Awards for Design Excellence from the Norwegian Design Council

We received two Awards for Design Excellence in the category "Industrial design" and one in the category of "Visual Communication". In addition, we were selected among over 100 projects and was honored with the prestigious "Inclusive Design Award". We got 3 of the awards for the project Blanke Ark and one of the awards for PramPack.

Brit Insurance Designs of the Year nominee

Kadabra has been nominated for the prestigious Brit Insurance Designs of the Year for the design of the new Norwegian polling station.

KADABRA won the National Design Competition 2008 - Design and Democracy in collaboration with Innovativoli and Blue Room. We created a whole new polling station for Norway in accordance with the principles of inclusive design.

Commercializing research by design

Kadabra has together with Campus Kjeller started a new company that will offer a wide range of design services tailored to the research and technology community at Kjeller.

The new company is called Kadabra Kjeller.Kadabra Kjeller will offer design expertise directly to the outstanding scientific and technological environment of Kjeller. The new enterprise makes Campus Kjeller the first innovation company in the country that has signed an agreement with a commercial design partner to establish a company with this type of expertise.

48 hours without sleep in the Inclusive Design Challenge

In October, Jørgen was invited by the Helen Hamlyn Centre at the Royal College of Art in London to supervise in the principles of Inclusive design.

Jørgen was in Seoul to lead one of the groups in the Seoul Design Olympiad. The theme for the 48-hour competition was Inclusive design. 65 designers from 10 countries in Europe, Asia and Australia participated in the competition. These were led by seven designers from Britain and Jørgen from Norway.

Flip and Flap - leather bags for PMI

PMI has launched a new handbag line designed by KADABRA

Flap is a shoulder bag in leather designed for people who feel that the distinction between work and leisure is blurred. With the transition from laptop to netbook use the PC becomes more personal and are brought along more than before. Flap 10" holds a netbook and not much more. The range also includes a shoulder bag for 15" laptop and two types of card wallets.

Jets presents new toilet

Jets´ new vacuum toilet was presented at the NOR shipping conference.

KADABRA in cooperation with minoko has designed and developed a vacuum toilet for use in ships and boats. The product represents something completely new in its industry by design, ergonomics, and hygiene.

Jets is a world leading manufacturer of vacuum toilets and manages to innovate through the use of design.

PramPack launch

Friday June 12 the PramPack was launched. A unique wheeled bag for safe transport of the pram on the journey.

PramPack is a rib reinforced and robust wheeled bag specially developed for transport and protection of prams. The patented cross construction makes the PramPack fit everything from large doubleprams to small three wheeled prams.

KADABRA have provided design and development of the product in close cooperation with the entrepreneur, SINTEF, NTNU, and manufacturers.

Aptomar on Norshipping

Aptomar presented their updated touch based interface for SECurus on the NOR shipping conference.

SECurus is a stabilized camera and searchlight for search and rescue operations at sea. The unit is mounted on the roof of a ship and is controlled by a very easy to use and innovative touch interface.

KADABRA has in cooperation with Aptomar designed and developed the interface that was presented at the conference.

Tracklog presented

Tracklog is a small and compact datalogger for use in demanding environments above and under water

KADABRA in cooperation with minoko has design and developed the enclosure to Marine Innovation´s datalogger technology.

A demanding operating environment both above and under water put a great deal of tough requirements on design, construction, and material selection.

Lecture in Design for all

KADABRA shares their knowledge in one of their core competence areas

Jørgen lectured in design for all on the Norwegian Rheumatism Association´s miniconference on packaging. KADABRA was invited to talk in connection with their project regarding the emergent need for packaging that address the principles of design for all. Focus was on methods for integrating these principles into product development. Jørgen has also lectured the same thematics for the Norwegian Packaging Association.

Caramello Chocolate bar

Nidar’s classic caramel chocolate bar has been given a new, smooth design by KADABRA

Nidar's Caramello was launched as early as in 1958, and both the chocolate and the packaging have remained unchanged through the years. Now, this classic has gone through a well deserved facelift. KADABRA has designed the new form of the chocolate, inspired by soft, running, delicious caramel. With its 35 grams, the Caramello is a small but exquisite chocolate temptation.

PramPack and Flip´n´Rail

Two of KADABRA´s customers in the Norwegian reality show "Skaperen"

Anne Morkemo and Ole Marius Bjugan have come to KADABRA to get help in realizing their ideas. Anne Morkemo´s idea is to provide parents with a bag that protects their pram when traveling by plane. Ole Marius Bjugan´s idea is a collapsible rail for sliding with skateboard, snowboard or skis. Now they compete among other inventors in the Norwegian reality show "Skaperen" on TV2.

Statens designkonkurranse

KADABRA wins the Norwegian Government's Design Competition 2008

A Design-for-All voting booth is the centerpiece of the new comprehensive set of voting material comprising ballot box, graphic profile, signage and ballot. The project was carried out as a collaboration between KADABRA Product Design, Innovativoli Industrial Design, and Blueroom Graphic Design - all of whom share a studio in Oslo, Norway. The project was the winning contribution to States Design Competition in Norway - releasing a big prize, and granting the rights to develop the project for a pilot study at next years governmental elections in Norway.

Sylvia visits KADABRA

Minister of Trade and Industry Sylvia Brustad visits KADABRA's Oslo department.

Minister of Trade and Industry Sylvia Brustad visited KADABRA's Oslo department to see how one of norway's top design firms are working. Brustad also took the opportunity to announce the government's future commitment to design. 11 MNOK extra is granted for greater creation of value in Norwegian trade and industry through design. The funds will be administrated by the Norwegian Design Council.

DesignER exhibition in Bergen

KADABRA is presented in the "DesignER" design exhibition in Bergen.

The exhibition is based on a series of interviews with trendsetting designers and design firms in Norway. They were asked the questions: "What is good design?", "What is good norwegian design?", and "What have you designed?"

KADABRA's answers resulted in a berry picking contraption, Lego, and a Moxy truck (Norwegian truck manufacturer) being exhibited. Our bike rack Løv was also a part of the exhibition.

Surf Expo with Stereo Skis

KADABRA with Stereo Skis to Surf Expo Trade Show Orlando Florida.

Stereo Skis introduced the concept of twin tip water skis or wake skis. To establish new connections in the industry and develop the company further the small company took part in Surf Expo in Orlando, Florida. Carl André from KADABRA also participated.

Golden calf prize
Jørgen was part of the jury for product design when evaluating this years edition of "Gullkalven"

"Gullkalven" is the youth version of the "Gullblyanten" which is the Norwegian championships in creative communication. The competition is made for and by students with a specialist jury. Students from all over the country showpieced their best work.

Aptomar launches Securus

Aptomar installs the Securus on the platform supply ship Volstad Princess.

Securus is a high-end marine safety and navigation tool for all kinds of off-shore activity. The main purpose of the product is to take care of the ship, the crew, and the environment. KADABRA has designed the product architecture and protective package of the camera and searchlight unit placed on deck in cooperation with Minoko. The product also consists of a touch screen based user interface where the interaction is designed by KADABRA. The visual expression of the product and the interface is modern and establishes it as a professional marine tool.

Initial force at Innovator

Initial Force presented their golf training device "Swing Catalyst" on Innovator. KADABRA have cooperated in design and development of the product and the user interface.

Initial Force AS develops tailor made bio mechanical feedback systems for sports. Through their expertise in bio mechanical engineering and data programming they have successfully developed feedback systems that help athletes push their sports to the next level.

Innovator is the entrepreneur oscars in Norway. A total of 1,4 MNOK in prizes was distributed to entrepreneurs in various stages of start-up.

KADABRA have cooperated in design and development of the product and the user interface of their product which is a motion analysis system for professional golfers. Here the latest prototype is tested on stage.
